Note to Prospective Students

I’m accepting new students. Do not email me though (or DM me at Twitter) , unless you already are an M.Sc. student at the University of Alberta. If you have any questions about the admission process at the University of Alberta, please read this link. Specifically,
  • If you are a prospective Ph.D. student: You should apply to the Ph.D. program of the Computing Science Dept. at the University of Alberta [link]. I am accepting students, so if you are interested in working with me, list me as one of your prospective supervisors in your statement of purpose. Because I’m an adjunct professor at the university, my name is not available in the list of potential supervisors in the application form. In that case, make sure you also select “Others” in that list of potential supervisors. Emailing me won’t increase your changes of getting in, but I do pay very close attention to all applications.
  • If you are a prospective M.Sc. student: You should apply to the M.Sc. program of the Computing Science Dept. at the University of Alberta [link]. M.Sc. students do not start with a supervisor and emailing me won’t increase your changes of getting in. Once you are accepted, you will have time to find a supervisor; at this point, reach out to me.
  • If you are interested at an internship with me at the university: I’m not taking any interns at the university at this point.
  • If you are interested at an internship with me at DeepMind: You should apply to the DeepMind internship program for the Alberta location [link] and mention my name in the application. Emailing me won’t increase your changes of getting in, but I do pay very close attention to all applications.
